MEDIABALAP.com (Jakarta) – The momentum is very much with Corvette in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s fiercely-disputed LMGT3 category at the midway stage of the 2026 campaign, but with four rounds still to run and more than 100 points up for grabs, the battle for glory remains wide open.
TF Sport’s #33 crew of Jonny Edgar, Nicky Catsburg and Ben Keating currently occupy the top three spots in the Drivers’ standings, but all are on different points totals, due to the American missing the opening two events while recovering from a broken elbow and the Dutchman’s absence from the most recent outing at Interlagos.
That means it is Edgar that sits at the summit of the standings, four points clear of Catsburg and a further 18 ahead of Keating; the 22-year-old Englishman was one of the standout performers of June’s 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with his extraordinary late-race effort cementing TF Sport’s fourth success at La Sarthe.
Together with the Texan’s stand-in Blake McDonald, Edgar and Catsburg also scooped the runner-up spoils in the curtain-raising contest at Imola, barely a quarter-of-a-second shy of victory.
That race was won by Team WRT, although it could just as easily have gone the way of FIA WEC newcomer, Garage 59. The decorated British outfit stunned on its championship debut as Tom Fleming secured pole position, and the #10 McLaren 720S Evo the rising star shares with Marvin Kirchhöfer and Antares Au was on course to convert that into the top step of the podium when an alternator issue with scarcely half-an-hour left on the clock cruelly dashed the trio’s dreams.
Their misfortune opened the door for the #69 BMW M4 Evo, piloted by Anthony McIntosh alongside championship rookies Parker Thompson and Dan Harper, with the latter expertly soaking up the pressure applied by Catsburg in the closing stages around the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Despite failing to score at either Spa-Francorchamps or Le Mans, a second-place finish in São Paulo keeps the Team WRT crew firmly in contention.
Garage 59 gained redemption in round two of the season in Belgium’s Ardennes, benefitting from a late penalty for the #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari to prevail in only its second series start. Since then, however, the story has been all about Corvette, with the #34 Racing Team Turkey by TF entry (Charlie Eastwood, Salih Yoluç and Peter Dempsey) repeating the sister car’s Le Mans result in Brazil to leave it tied on points with the #69 BMW.
Defending champion Manthey – undefeated in LMGT3 title battles to-date – remains a regular threat. The ultra-successful Eifel-based operation might be uncharacteristically yet to triumph in 2026 – frequently having to fight through the pack from lowly grid slots – but third-place finishes at Imola, Spa and Interlagos leave the #92 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera and Yasser Shahin finely-poised to pounce over the second half of the campaign.
Akkodis ASP Team’s pair of Lexus RC Fs have similarly shown strong speed on multiple occasions – highlighted by a superb second place at Le Mans – but are playing catch-up following early reliability woes, while Aston Martin’s brace of Vantage AMRs have achieved a podium finish apiece, with Mattia Drudi impressively claiming pole position for the season’s flagship event in north-western France for the second consecutive year.
The #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari 296 Evo – the reigning championship runner-up in the hands of Alessio Rovera, Simon Mann and François Hériau – has been a more low-key presence so far this season, but has nonetheless been solidly notching up the points, despite losing victory in Belgium.
Proton Competition’s Ford Mustangs and Iron Lynx’s Mercedes-AMGs, meanwhile, have yet to reach the rostrum in 2026, but have both demonstrated the potential to do so – setting the scene for a fascinating final four rounds, beginning with Lone Star Le Mans at Austin’s Circuit of The Americas in Texas on 4-6 September.
