F2.SeanGP.com – PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing will start from the front row in the opening race of the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend at Montmelò near Barcelona. In the first European outing of the series, Dutchman Nyck De Vries posted a quick flying lap late in qualifying to secure second place for tomorrow’s feature race. Lining-up on a technical racetrack that can highlight his driving skills, De Vries is expected to be a contender on race day. On the other hand, 21-year-old Indonesian Sean Gelael will take-off from the 8th row of the grid in P16 as he struggled to put everything together. Relying on his great race pace, he is looking forward to a good rebound tomorrow.
# 3 – Sean Gelael
“It was my bad this time in qualifying. In the first run I was just trying to get everything together but I made a mistake in turn five. In the second run, I was losing to Nyck in turn 9 so I tried to do the same as him but didn’t put a lap together. The gap from P16 to P8 is like 3 tenths of a second and I lost two that way so… At least we know the car is competitive and I know I’m competitive in the races so we can fight back tomorrow.”
# 4 – Nyck De Vries
“I think in the end we can be satisfied with our qualifying today. We built our day well in free practice. We stayed calm and managed to put something together. We’re starting from the front row tomorrow and I think it’s positive. Obviously, we always want more, and the potential was there, but everybody makes mistakes. It’s close, but let’s see what we can do tomorrow from the front row…”
